36 Hours in Toronto: Kensington Market

Our weekend in Toronto was a dense one, in the best way possible. My past visit to Toronto (in 2010) was a whirlwind. We arrived via bus (10 hour ride), checked into our hotel, had dinner, partied, and hopped back on a bus back home. We didn't do anything Torontonian.

This time though, we flew in (1 hour ride), checked into our hotel, and enjoyed a flurry of activities over the course of 36 hours. Holly and I both enjoy travel immensely. But despite that common love, we haven't traveled together as a duo before, which is unfortunate because we make quite the pair. We were super in sync and we really enjoyed ourselves.
From the airport, we took the Rocket Bus to the subway to another bus into Chinatown and checked into our hotel. We thought we'd just drop off our bags because it was only 10:00 (and regular check in time is at 14:00) but our room was ready!

DIY Yogurt Face Mask

I love skincare. It's somewhat of a recent obsession. I didn't take great care of my skin when I was younger, which I definitely regret, but it's never too late to start. So, since about sophomore year of college, I've been obsessed with lotions and face masks and facial exercises and massages. I have a few different store bought masks that I use weekly - mostly clay ones - but I love DIY ones too. The DIY ones are awesome because you know exactly what's going into the mask (no chemicals or weird ingredients) and they're quite affordable.

This particular mask that I'm sharing today is awesome because it's all natural and it works.
All you need are these three ingredients: egg white, honey, and of course, yogurt.

Revitalash Before & After

Yes, I'm back from Toronto, hooray! I've got loads of photos to share but I've got to dig through them and edit them and organize them before I share. In the meantime, I have a little beauty review to share.

I know there are plenty of Revitalash reviews and blog posts on the internet already but I'm here to add another one to the pile.

I bought a two-pack for about $100 during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I bought it on a whim, just hoping it would work for me. I've been using coconut oil for about a year, just smearing it on my lashes and eyebrows to hydrate them, which helps them to resist breakage. It did help my lashes to grow stronger and to make them look thicker but it did nothing for the length. I thought maybe Revitalash would do the trick.

The tube looks like mascara and the applicator is a small brush that looks like a liquid eyeliner brush.
The product itself is pretty thin, but it's thick enough that it doesn't drip off of the brush. And that makes for the most perfect consistency because it's easy to apply the product and spread it across your lashes (without needing to double dip) but it won't just leach out and make its way onto your eyeball.

36 Hours in Toronto: Packing List

Here's what I'm thinking about packing for my short trip this weekend:
36 hours in toronto

I'm packing low-maintenance dresses - ones that will be comfy for the plane rides up and back - and of course, a fun clubbing outfit for Saturday evening. I'll be wearing comfy boots so that I'll be happy walking all around the city and a light jacket, in case it gets chilly.

I'm so excited to carry a tiny travel bag that's stuffed with just two little outfits because I'll be able to go through security in a flash. Of course my camera is coming with me. I've been to Toronto several times but haven't explored it in a touristy setting, so I'm really excited. I looked up cool places we should visit and I have a few sites that are high priority. And we'll certainly Yelp our tummies happy once we get there.

I'm also incredibly excited to update my blog when I get back. I've been traveling so much this year and it's been awesome - Texas, DC, Mount Rushmore, the Badlands, Teddy Roosevelt National Park, France, Miami, and soon I'll be adding Toronto and Turks & Caicos to the list. I think this might be my most travel-y year yet. Oh! And because my cousin and her husband have moved to Philly, I expect that we'll be doing a short trip there soon. I'm having so much fun and I feel so blessed. So many local trips mixed in there, which is nice because they're budget friendly as well.

Thanks for reading! xoxo.

What's In My Carry On

This weekend, I'm traveling to Toronto with my friend, H, who is also a huge travel buff. I think she's the only person I know who is probably more wanderlusty than I am, and I think that's saying quite a lot. We're headed up because one of the best clubs ever (The Guvernment) is closing its doors soon and we wanted one last awesome cheers. I'll be sharing the good bits of the trip here, I'm sure. We're flying up on Saturday and flying back down on Sunday so we'll have plenty of time for exploring before and after we party.

Since I've got all of that fun stuff going on, I thought I'd share an updated 'What's in my carry on?' since it's been about two years since I've last shared my carry on contents. Not much has changed, really, which I think speaks to how streamlined and cool I am. Jokes! But seriously, it does speak to my preferences because I'm not an over-packer but I still love to have certain essentials at my disposal when I travel (namely by plane).
When I say "carry on" I mean the little bag that fits in the space below the seat in front of me. I never check luggage so all of my bags are technically carry ons but the one that goes in the overhead compartment isn't exactly the most convenient thing to rummage through once you're aboard and flying. That bag has clothes and shoes and underpants in it. The more accessible bag has stuff I might need throughout the flight.

4 Years!

What the heck? Has it really been four friggin' years since I started blogging over here? That's crazy to me. I actually started this blog as a way to document the 10-day, 4-city Euro trip I was planning with a former beau. I wrote down every bit and bob of the decision-making and booking process and then relived it afterwards through this online space. I had never meant for it to be anything more than a personal diary.
This blog has changed a bit since its early days. I've been sharing quite a few DIYs and even a nail tutorial here and there. I've traveled to several new countries (including Turkey and Belize) and I learned that I love to snorkel. And lucky for me, I've got a few consistent visitors and my readership is pretty impressive, considering this is still just a fun little hobby for me.

Here's to another many more years filled with traveling and DIYs and lots of fun. Thanks to everyone who reads. Cheers!

Miami Snapshots Part 4

This is the last installment of photos from Miami. It's just a mish-mosh of stuff from our last day.
Actually, it's not just stuff from our last day, it's a mix of stuff from the whole weekend. I just got around to sorting through everyone else's photos and there were some fun gems in there.

Miami Snapshots Part 3

The purpose of our Miami trip was for a bachelorette weekend. Three of us flew in on Friday and two more met up with us on Saturday. Once all five of us were together, we started the real fun.
There was a free drink check-in offer through Yelp at our hotel so we met up in the bar before dinner.

Miami Snapshots Part 2

Our second day in Miami was glorious.
We started our morning off properly: with breakfast.

Miami Snapshots Part 1

Happy Labor Day! I was so incredibly grateful for this past weekend. I haven't had a quiet, vegetative, relaxing weekend in months. And if you know me, you know that I'm pretty introverted and I love alone time so I've been growing more and more anxious with every busy weekend. But, I finally got a chance to cool off - and a long weekend at that - so I'm feeling a lot happier.
That isn't to say that I haven't had fun during my super busy weekends. Last weekend, I flew down to Florida for a girls' trip with three of my fellow bridesmaids and the bride-to-be for a bachelorette holiday. Miami was so friggin' awesome. We had a fun time and I wanted to share a few snaps from the trip. I'll be breaking the photos up into four posts because we took so GD many.
