About Me

Hello and welcome!

I'm Rachel and I love to travel (frugally). I also love to DIY and do my nails and other girly things so I share bits and bobs of other hobbies on this blog too. I'm a civil engineer for a consulting company and as much as I love math and building cool things, the main goal of working is to make money to fund my holidays.
My most favourite teacher was my fifth grade teacher, Mr. Williams, who is British. I'd never met a Brit in real life before; I had just seen them on television. And even though I'd always been fascinated by the accent, hearing it in real life made me fall in love with it even more. So ever since the 5th grade, I've been a bit of an Anglophile and it was a long-time wish to visit the UK. In 2008, I went to London for the first time and I've been back several times and have had a great time exploring other cities as well; you can check out where I've been if you're interested.

I don't have a huge budget and my job gives me a limited number of vacation days but I'm lucky enough to live just 30 miles outside of New York City, which means I have three major airports at my disposal. So, whenever I stumble across affordable flight deals, I pounce on them. Actually, many of the places I've been to weren't even on my radar until I found cheap flights.

I've also learned to appreciate vacationing more locally and enjoying road trips (despite my hatred of driving). I try and document most of those trips here, from the brainstorming to the organizing to the actual trip. I've also made an effor to compile my thoughts and tips into a 'Travel 101' series as well.

I'm currently using a Sony NEX 5T compact system camera to take photos for my blog. Older photos and a few of my photo diaries feature shots taken with whatever iPhone I had at the time.

Bon voyage and happy travels! If you'd like to send me an email, you can reach me at racheerachh [at] gmail.com (I've broken up the link to prevent any robotic spamming).

P.S. I also love food and have a blog devoted to eating.
