Italy 2025
Happy Christmas! I'm so delinquent in posting about Italy. We were there in late October so it's a two month lapse. I was ill when we returned so I wasn't v. motivated and then I just got lazy. But then J gifted me a new MacBook Pro for Christmas so I ran out of excuses.
We flew into Milan and used that as somewhat of a home base. The first half of the trip was spent in Alba, where we enjoyed time at the white truffle festival and got to dine at the world famous Piazza Duomo. Actually, I snagged that reservation first and then used that as motivation to book the trip overall. We got to learn about barolo and barbaresco wines, enjoyed some local cheeses, and visited a hazelnut farm.Back in Milan, we did the Duomo twice (the first time to see the inside and then the second trip to see the terrace on our last day). We had aperitivo and risotto milanese and osso bucco.
We also went to Parma and Modena where we learned how parmigiano is made and had a balsamic vinegar tasting. We got to go to a small farm where they cure their own meats and make their own spirits and pickles and anything else that gets fermented. I also managed to get a lunch reservation at Osteria Francescana, another famous eatery, which was well worth the trip.
Oh, and I almost forgot one of the best parts. For our trip out to Italy, I was able to get reasonably priced upgrades to first class! It was my first time being able to recline on a plane and it was wonderful. It made it so that jet lag wasn't even an issue. Now I'm spoiled and I don't know how I'll go back to coach ever again.
