Catskills Autumn 2022

A couple weekends ago, J and I drove up to Fleischmanns, New York to stay at a cute little cabin rental (via Red Cottage Inc.). Though we were past peak foliage, it was still really pretty and we had a great time. We had some great dinners at Brushland Eating House and Peekamoose and a great breakfast at Cafe Marguerite. We went on a fun hike at Giant Ledge and on our way home, we stopped at Storm King Art Center.

One small tip if you're ever visiting this area: the cell reception is not great so I highly recommend downloading an offline map of the area (via Google Maps) so that you can still do navigation and figure out where you are, even if you don't have a signal.

The weather was perfect - it was warm and sunny - and an awesome way to celebrate J's birthday weekend.

We stayed at the Belleayre View Cabin and it was super cute. There was a wood fireplace, hot tub, whirlpool tub, well-stocked kitchen, and gorgeous view.

We kicked off the weekend at Brushland Eating House where they do one seating per dinner and it's just a prix-fixe menu. We had a special gin cocktail to start (served in teacups). We got a tonnato as an amuse bouche followed by a squash soup, salad, pumpkin tortellini, and a lamb cassoulet. Dessert was an apple cake, which was nice except that I didn't care for the raisins.

After dinner, we enjoyed the hot tub in the chilly evening air and then it was off to bed. The next morning, we wandered the grounds around the house and then had a homemade breakfast of french toast before going off on our hike.

The hike was gorgeous. It was pretty strenuous with one slightly treacherous rock scramble, but the view at the top was well worth it. I'm sure it would have been even better at peak foliage but I also appreciated that it was a quieter hike with few people.

For dinner on Saturday night, we went to Peekamoose. The food was really simple but delicious and it was a v. cute little eatery.

On our second and last night in the cabin, we enjoyed the stars and a fire. The stars were so bright, I was able to capture them on my dinky little mobile phone.
On our final morning, we cleaned up the house (per the instructions we were given) and headed to breakfast at Cafe Marguerite. I ended up getting one of the daily specials, a lamb merguez croissant, which was so good.
After breakfast, we drove south towards home and made a pit stop at Storm King to enjoy the open air museum vibe with some cool sculptures and art installations.
The foliage was pretty much at peak here so it was super gorgeous and really fun.

xoxo.
