24 Hours in Tokyo

We flew into Japan for just a day before we headed back home. We weren't there for long but we managed to jam in a few fun activities and some delicious food. Since my sis and I had already been there before (technically twice) we just hit up a few of our favorite spots mostly within the neighborhood near our hotel, with a little bit of venturing out.
To be honest, Tokyo is not my favorite, but admittedly, it has its charm.
We took a redeye in and landed super early in the morning. It was rough going since we were really jetlagged. But, we dropped off our bags at our hotel (since it was too early to check in) and beelined straight to the Tsukiji Fish Market. We got some fresh strawberries and tamago.
For lunch, I had made reservations at Shutoku. It was so delicious, with the exception of the uni, which had a weird athletic foot flavor.
Afterwards, we got some daifuku for dessert and then headed to a small Japanese woodworking shop.
Inoue Hamono is a gorgeous little family-owned shop that J found with a little internet research. The shopkeeper and his son were so adorable and I ended up buying a chef's knife while J bought some hand tools for his papa.
Once we were done shopping, it was finally time to check into our hotel. We stayed at the Onsen Ryokan Yuen Shinjuku. It was a really beautiful hotel and though the rooms were teeny, it was homey and nice.
After settling in, we went to Theobroma to have the cacao tea we loved so much. It wasn't quite what we remembered but the desserts were so good.
For dinner, we wanted to get some udon but there was a long wait, so we ended up popping into a nearby barbecue restaurant, which doesn't have an English name but translate says it's called Motsuyaki Daruma. We ordered some beers, some pork belly, peppers, beef outside skirt, pork hanging tender, and a perilla leaf rice wrap.
For udon, we went to Udon Shin. You can watch them making fresh noodles in the window and everything is cooked to order. It was so friggin' delicious. I would go back to Japan for this meal alone.
After dinner, my sis and B headed back to the hotel. I wanted to take J to Golden Gai, because I thought it would be right up his alley. We ended up at a bar called Rocket.
After some beers, we checked out a nearby temple and then headed back to the hotel to indulge in some onsen time.
The next morning, we got up and headed to get some lunch at Gyukatsu Motomura. I love katsu and I love wagyu, so this place totally hit the spot.
After that, we grabbed our bags from the hotel and it was off to the airport to head home.
